By: gaby schmid Prabal Gurung raised in Kathmandu, born in Singapore. His career he has started in New Delhi Indian while he was study at New Delhi's National Institute for Fashion Technology, he apprenticed at several local productions and fashion houses and designed with Marish Arora. His travel has taken him around the world from Melbourne and to London where he assisted stylist for various fashion shows and international publications. After seven years of travelling, in 1999 he moved to New York City. He started his career in New York working for Donna Karen while he was attending Parsons /FIT design competition. After Parsons, he spent two years working with Cynthia Rowley's design team, which allowed him to gain even more invaluable experience on both the design and business of the New York’s highly completive fashion scene. Soon after this, he became the design director at Bill Blass. After successful years, Gurung left his post to launch his own collection, Prabal Gurung. Since the launch of his collection, he has dressed leading ladies like Michelle Obama, Demi Moore, Zoe Saldana and Oprah Winfrey.In 2010 he received the Ecco Domani Fashion Fund Award and he was nominated for the Swarovski Award. He was chosen by the fashion industry’s leading editors retailers, designers and business experts for one of the highly coveted design studios.
