Tarrytown, August 17, 2010 - Westcon Group, Inc., the leading specialty distributor in networking, convergence, security and mobility, today announced that Lynn Smurthwaite-Murphy, senior vice president, U.S. and Canada, Westcon Group, has been recognized by Everything Channel’s CRN Magazine as one of the top Women of the Channel. CRN’s annual list recognizes female executives across vendors’ channel organizations, distributors and solution providers for their accomplishments over the past year and the far-reaching impact they are having on the technology industry going forward. This year’s Women of the Channel were chosen by the editors of CRN Magazine based on their achievements as executives and the amount of influence they wield over the technology channel.

Smurthwaite-Murphy, who is Westcon Group's top North American executive, has spent 23 years in the channel and has an outstanding track record of success. Her recognition by CRN and recent promotion in June to senior vice president, U.S. and Canada, reflects her team's accomplishments during her previous role as vice president/general manager Westcon Canada Systems Inc.:

   * Achieved double digit revenue and margin growth in 2009 during a severe economic recession
   * Became Cisco's fastest growing distributor year over year in 2009, during Comstor's first year of operation in Canada
   * Deepened Westcon Canada's customer relations and expanded vendor offerings
   * Led Westcon Canada to become a top newsmaker in IT for 2009

“Women hold many prominent executive positions at vendor organizations, distributors and solution provider organizations, providing critical insight and influence when it comes to technology and the channel. We want to honor and congratulate these women for their contributions to the industry and their respective organizations,” said Kelley Damore, VP, Editorial Director, Everything Channel.

"I am honored to be selected as one of CRN's Women of the Channel," commented Lynn Smurthwaite-Murphy. "I applaud CRN for recognizing and encouraging women to build their careers in the IT Channel, and am grateful that Westcon Group has given me the opportunity to do so in my own career. Westcon has always supported a diverse workplace and has a number of women in key management positions around the world. The spirit of this award is a positive acknowledgement by our industry, and it is important that we continue to promote and support diversity throughout the channel."

A special feature of the Women of the Channel appeared in the July issue of CRN Magazine and expanded coverage will be featured online at www.crn.com.
