Dr. Robert Phillips: Director of Harrison School for the Arts New Guitar Department

Harrison School for the Arts is proud to announce the permanent addition of Dr. Robert Phillips as Director of the Guitar Department. Dr. Phillips is respected internationally as scholar, educator, composer, author, and performer.
 
Aug. 19, 2010 - PRLog -- Harrison School for the Arts is proud to announce the permanent addition of Dr. Robert Phillips as Director of the Classical Guitar Department.   A recipient of a Japan Fulbright, Dr. Phillips is respected internationally as a scholar, educator, composer, author, and performer. The Guitar Department is an exciting addition to the fine arts at Harrison this fall.  Very few spots are available for the Fall 2010 Guitar Department.  Please contact Mr. Craig Collins, Principal at Harrison School of the Arts, to arrange an audition.

Dr. Phillips is a former student of Rey de la Torre, Carlos Barbosa-Lima, and David Starobin and has embraced a wide range of repertory preferences.  He is considered one of the leading authorities on the music of Miguel Llobet, and is responsible for discovering the missing Llobet archive in Barcelona.
Robert Phillips has been featured on numerous public and commercial radio and television programs, as guest and as host, both in the U.S. and abroad. Dr. Phillips has also served in different capacities as editor, author, and/or columnist for several leading guitar industry journals including: “Guitar Review”; “Soundboard”, “Guitar Player” and more.  He has also been published by Cherry Lane Music Co., Inc. and his anthology, “Great Themes and Variations for Classic Guitar” was published by Mel Bay Publications, Inc.

Robert has served as an artist-in-residence for six states and has served on the boards of advisors to the Society of the Classic Guitar of New York and the Long Island Classical Guitar Society, as well as on the Board of Directors for Arts on the Park, in Lakeland. He was on the faculties of The Preparatory Center for the Performing Arts at Brooklyn College, Mount Vernon Music Academy, All Saints Academy, Southeastern University, Polk State College, and has conducted master classes and workshops in the US and Canada.
