Aug. 18, 2010 - Most wire harness manufacturers have the challenge of testing a variety of wire harness configurations, or part numbers. To add to the operational complexity, each part number is subject to periodic updates and revisions. When a wire harness design changes, corresponding changes have to be made to the test program that is used by the wire harness tester. This can result in multiple versions of each test program. Another complicating factor is that these multiple versions of test programs may reside in the memories of various wire harness testers on the shop floor or on removable storage media used by the wire harness testers. This scenario can lead to significant difficulty in identifying and keeping track of the latest version of the wire harness test program for a particular part number.
Dynalab Test Systems offers an effective solution for this problem: NX Server networking software. Dynalab’
s NX Server software improves the management and control of wire harness test operations by providing a central repository for all test programs. Every NX Wire Harness Tester connected to the network has access to the test program repository. An operator can manually scroll through the server’s directory for the desired program and download it to a NX Wire Harness Tester. In addition, Dynalab offers the capability of using a bar code scanner to scan in the part number, enabling the NX Wire Harness Tester to search the central repository for the associated test program, download it and execute it – all automatically. Although each NX Wire Harness tester can store hundreds of test program in its local memory, this capability can be disabled so that the tester stores only one program. This ensures retrieval of the latest version of test programs from the NX Server's central repository rather than from the tester's local memory.
