Aug. 18, 2010 - PRLog -- September 2010 marks the completion of the 25th year of service to the community for SHARE, a nonprofit food buying club that welcomes everyone to save 30-50% on groceries. The organization has been celebrating its silver anniversary all year long, but now activities are ramping up as the actual anniversary date of SHARE’s first food distribution in 1985 approaches.

SHARE is almost entirely powered by over 1,000 monthly volunteers, the majority of whom help at 200 food pick-up locations throughout Wisconsin, the UP of Michigan, northeastern Minnesota and northern Illinois. This fall, most SHARE sites will be holding local 25th Anniversary Celebrations to thank their members, volunteers and partner organizations for bringing the organization’s savings on food to their communities. Members of the “SHARE family” throughout the organization’s service area are encouraged to contact their local volunteer team for details on their local event.

On Saturday, October 2, 2010 from 1pm–4pm, SHARE’s main office and warehouse in Butler, WI, will hold an Anniversary Open House for all members of the SHARE family. Both Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett and Waukesha County Executive Daniel P. Vrakas have proclaimed the day “SHARE Day”. The event will feature light refreshments, SHARE memorabilia, a short program with local officials invited to speak, music and more. Those interested in joining the festivities should RSVP by calling SHARE’s main office toll-free at 800-548-2124 or sending an email to info@sharewi.org.

At the beginning of its 25th anniversary year, SHARE announced the creation of the SHARE Cares Food Fund to raise funds to help feed families in need throughout Wisconsin, the UP of Michigan, northern Illinois and northeastern Minnesota. Because SHARE serves over 8,000 families every month with savings on food, the value of donations to the fund are also stretched by 30-50%. So far, hundreds of families have received food through the fund.

Donations can be made when ordering food through SHARE via its online ordering system, available at www.sharewi.org. Or members can contribute $1 to the fund by purchasing the 25th Anniversary Special item on the monthly SHARE order form. For September, that special item is a 5-lb. package of Pork Sausage Patties for just $11.00 plus shipping and handling in some areas. Contributions can be made through the SHARE Cares Food Fund Cause on Facebook©.

Another fundraiser for the fund is the SHARE 25th Anniversary Cookbook, due out this fall. The cookbook will feature around 150 recipes from SHARE members and volunteers. The cookbook will be offered for $10.00 on SHARE’s November and December order forms, just in time for holiday gifts.

SHARE invites the public to get involved, either by purchasing food, volunteering with SHARE or elsewhere in the community, or by making a donation to the SHARE Cares Food Fund. For more information, call 800-548-2124 or visit www.sharewi.org.
