Dr. Laura should have read The Book of Bad Habits

The uproar over Dr. Laura's use of the "n-word" on her conservative radio show has prompted her to quit. We all need to be reminded that name-calling is a bad habit to be avoided, especially if you're a nationally syndicated radio talk show host.

Aug. 18, 2010 - PRLog -- Following controversy about Dr. Laura Schlessinger’s repeated use of the “n-word” on the radio, the conservative talk show commentator has decided to call it quits.

Dr. Laura will not renew her contract with Talk Radio Network when it expires at the end of this year. The New York Times reports she is not retiring, but just ending her talk show. She plans to continue publishing books and host speaking engagements.

Schlessinger - best known as Dr. Laura - has been a radio fixture for more than 30 years. Trade journal Talkers magazine reports that Dr. Laura has the third highest rated talk radio show in the country, trailing only Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity.

Dr. Laura isn't the first high-profile person to use name-calling to get her point across and she won't be the last. Sometimes they don't get into hot water - other times they do, as in Schlessinger's case.

Seems and bit more civility might have served Dr Laura well. If you're interested in how to make your point without calling people names, or how to talk with others and not lose your temper, take a look at The Book of Bad Habits. It's a funny fun way to explore everything from picking your nose - to chewing with your mouth open - to feeling sorry for yourself.
