GPS North America Offers On Board Diagnostics Reporting

The new element allows information to be relayed to a database, where the customer can access a report.

The reporting service can be used on any small to medium sized vehicle, including delivery trucks and vans. An alert system will let the company know there is a maintenance problem with the vehicle before it has a break-down. Those with this vehicle tracking technology on board are also exempt from physically taking the vehicle to emissions inspection, depending on the company’s location.

“If they have it on board, they only have to go every other year in some states,” said Todd Lewis, President of GPS North America. “It keeps the vehicle from being off the road. This prevents down time and helps the company save money.”

The onboard diagnostics reporting device records speed, miles per gallon, engine fault codes and emissions information. The amount of time a vehicle is spent at each location and how long it idles is also recorded. It is designed to help a company track where its vehicles are meeting expectations and where they are falling short.

“If you know your vehicle is supposed to be getting 16 miles per gallon, but instead it is getting 12, you know there is something wrong,” said Lewis. “It could be underinflated tires, a fuel problem or driver behavior.”
