Aug. 17, 2010 - PRLog -- bluQube, a leading vendor of financial management software and title sponsor for Katie Miller, one of the UK’s most promising young solo sailors, is proud to have supported Katie in her recent solo Channel Week campaign, sailing bluQube, a Beneteau Figaro II. The race, an annual event organised by the Solo Offshore Racing Club (SORC) is a 350 mile six leg dash about the Channel that set sail from Lymington on 31st July with a fleet of 22 competitors.

Starting and finishing in Lymington and just one rest day in St Quay this race presented a tough challenge of endurance and seamanship.  Visiting Alderney, Guernsey, St Quay, Brixham and Portland, the race concluded on Saturday 6th August 10, with all 22 boats returning safely.

Katie Miller comments on her recent challenge “It felt great to be back on the water and part of the racing pack this time sailing solo with bluQube.  I really prepared mentally and physically for this challenge and worked hard getting the boat race ready for the 360 mile trip.  In the end despite my best endeavours the tide was against me on this occasion and I was let down in the final stages by a faulty pilot.”

After an estimated 70 hours of helming over the course of the week Katie said “I could do with a holiday to recover! One race has never taken it out of me quite so much! Now it’s a case of fingers crossed and hoping that the French chaps in Paris can fix that blasted pilot! Imagine what a race it would have been with it!”

With classes arranged by the IRC handicap system, Katie raced bluQube in Class 1.  Along with three other boats that recently completed the Round Britain and Ireland race: Chris Rustom in Ding Dong (a Stewart 37), Mary Falk in QII (Pocock35) and Rob Craigie in Jbellino (J/122), also competing in the class were Noj White in SX girl (X-37) and Peter Olden on Solan Goose (A-35).

After a tough battle at sea, with difficult and changing weather conditions, in the end  Solan Goose of Hamble scooped first place, with JBellino second and Ding Dong coming in third.

The next event for Katie Miller and bluQube is the Silicon Cup on 8th and 9th September 2010.
