Colombo Dockyard PLC (CDPLC) laid the keel for the construction of the second vessel of a series of two 130 Ton Bollard Pull Anchor Handling Tug Supply Vessels, at the auspicious time of 1035 am on 17th August 2010.
The keel laying ceremony signifies the commencement of construction work of the AHTSV, which is one of the biggest bollard pull capacity vessels to be constructed by CDPLC. The simple ceremony was attended by Owner’s Representatives, Classification Society Surveyors, Mr. Akihiko Nakauchi Chairman CDPLC, Mr. Mangala Yapa MD/CEO CDPLC, senior management and the project management team led by Mr. R.D.J. Sumanasiri.
The vessel design (Moss 525) was developed by a world renowned ship design firm, Moss Maritime a.s., of Norway. The plan approval and ongoing construction survey will be performed by Det Norske Veritas (DNV). The first vessel of this series is under construction and is scheduled for delivery mid 2011 and this second vessel is scheduled for delivery in third quarter of 2011. The Vessel will be registered in Singapore and comply with all statutory regulations laid down by the flag state authorities and IMO.
Generally, these vessels perform supply duties between base offshore units, handle anchors, chain and piggy back anchors, as well as do suitcasing anchors of pipe laying barges, semi submersibles and other moored offshore structures and towing of barges, semi submersibles and other Vessels.
The Vessel will be equipped with two controllable pitch propellers as main propulsion, two flap rudders, two tunnel thrusters at the bow and two tunnel thrusters at the stern, giving excellent maneuverability and station keeping ability. Twin maneuvering consoles will be fitted in the wheelhouse stations, forward and aft with "joy-stick" controls. The Vessel which will be equipped with advanced dynamic positioning (Dynpos AUTR) system, will ensure safe and efficient operations while working in close proximity to oil platforms/ rigs, even under the most harshest weather conditions.
The accommodation for 40 persons will be well-appointed and shall be centrally air-conditioned. These accommodation areas will be well-appointed and will be aesthetically designed and built. Special attention will be paid to noise and vibration levels and crew comfort onboard the Vessel, thereby making the Vessel, a comfortable place to live in, for long durations.
