Aug. 16, 2010 - PRLog -- With countless award-winning beaches, historic towns a plenty, rolling hills, mile upon mile of spectacular views, National Parks, picture postcard villages and majestic cliffs all to explore and enjoy, it’s no wonder the South West is the UK’s number one holiday destination.

It’s those same features which make the area a great place to live. That’s why Retirement Villages Ltd has chosen to develop not one but three age-exclusive villages in the region - in Taunton, the county town of Somerset, in a designated Area of
Outstanding Natural Beauty on the outskirts of Honiton in Devon and in Tregony, a Cornish village at the gateway to the Roseland Peninsula.

The villages offer a range of privately owned homes grouped around exclusive communal facilities which can include a restaurant, bar, function room, library, computer area, games room, salon and fitness suite.

Just like a holiday, village life is what you make it. For some residents it’s the peace, quiet and security of living in a community of like-minded people that appeals. For others the draw is the range of activities and the social life. Still others are attracted by the wider area.

“We were impressed with the village and the lifestyle on offer. The town is friendly too with everything we’re ever likely to need,” said Michael Pettet who moved into Blagdon Village in Taunton two years ago. “Most of the essential facilities, and plenty of leisure
options, are within walking distance.”

Many Retirement Villages residents have felt drawn to the South West after enjoying happy holidays in the region, while some have been encouraged by the proximity of
family and friends.

Ted Mooney’s daughter lives in Honiton, Devon and watched Gittisham Hill Park being built.

“I’d lived in London all my life and, in comparison, this place was unbelievable,” said Mr Mooney. “The best part is the tranquility... it’s idyllic.”

At Roseland Parc in Cornwall, Elizabeth Sharratt is living, with husband Roger, a few miles from where she grew up.

“It’s such a beautiful part of Cornwall,” said Mrs Sharratt. “As a child, I walked to the beaches, the fishing villages, everywhere. It was always warm, I only remember it snowing once.”

Mrs Sharratt is now able to revisit those familiar places as often as she wants.

“We enjoy lots of trips out and about, getting to know the countryside again. Every day has become a holiday.”
