Follow on Google News | New Services For Cuckmere Community Bus Users In HailshamCuckmere Community Bus services in Hailsham have improved yet again with the running of extra journeys linking the town to its surrounding villages for local service users.
By: Terry Hall, Hailsham Town Council The new journeys run at just after 10am and midday on Fridays only, in an attempt to encourage new passengers. Until last November, this service was only in operation on Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons. A flat fare of £1.40 is charged for any journey, and eligible passengers can travel free using their English National Concessionary Travel scheme pass. Director and Treasurer of Cuckmere Community Bus Ltd, Andrew Cottingham, confirmed that the new service has attracted new passengers but there was still room for more. “It is a friendly service run by local fully trained volunteer drivers. We use easy access low floor minibuses to provide the service and our regular passengers are delighted with the friendly service they receive.” “We hope more people living on the route will give it a try.” Timetables are available from the Town Council offices or online at www.cuckmerebus. freeuk.com.” The Mayor of Hailsham, Cllr Robin Kempe, said, “Independent buses such as these that complement existing operators are a great helping hand for many people living in Hailsham travelling to and from surrounding villages. It is a privilege for the Town Council to underwrite these essential services." Volunteers are needed to drive the Cuckmere Community Bus, which currently runs a service in Hailsham on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday (excluding bank holidays). If you are over 25 years of age, able to offer your services and would like more information on volunteer training opportunities, contact Philip Ayres on 01323 870920 or 07718 739673.
