LateRooms.com - Enjoy Drawings at London's Tate Britain

Drawings by Rachel Whiteread shows the artist is not only able to produce large-scale sculptures.

Aug. 15, 2010 - PRLog -- London's Tate Britain is the venue for a new Rachel Whiteread exhibition entitled Drawings, which offers a new angle on her artistic talents.

She is traditionally known as a sculptor, with her large-scale creations earning her plenty of critical acclaim, but this display showcases her drawing ability.

Fans of the artist staying in London hotels (http://www.laterooms.com/en/k16295585_london-hotels.aspx) may be surprised at how intimate the work featured in this exhibition is, with the organisers pointing out that many of the themes that dominate her sculpting commissions are present in these stripped down projects.

Among these subjects are the notions of texture and surface, as well as the "subtle observation of human traces in everyday life", noted the venue.

"While her sculptures are often large-scale and involve a team of fabricators, these paper works provide a more personal, mobile counterpoint," it added.

The collection has been put together by the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles and offers an interesting look at the core drawing ability of a well known artist.

What makes this display all the more special is that many of the items have never been displayed in public before.

They will add to the various sculptures that the Tate already possesses of her work, such as Untitled (Air Bed II) from 1992.

Tickets for this exhibition cost £5, although attendees with passes to the Eadweard Muybridge show at the Tate Britain can get in for free.
