Artists Transform Historic Building into Wonderland

This month, Raleigh based Artists Emily Cash, Susan Parrish, and Lauren Van Hemert are transforming the lobby of Artspace into Wonderland. The Through the Looking Glass exhibition opened Friday August 6th to the public.

Using the text of both Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass as a springboard, Cash has created the Wonderland environment by drawing directly onto the lobby walls of the 100 year old historic building. She used over 40 Sharpies to apply the twenty foot murals onto the walls.

“For most people, art is inaccessible… in a frame, behind glass, or in a museum,” says Van Hemert. “Here you are standing in the drawing and becoming part of it.”
