Follow on Google News | Marathon Runners Sought To Join Team Miles for HopeMiles for Hope is seeking athletes who wish to compete in marathons and endurance events across the country and that have a desire to find better treatments for brain tumors and ultimately a cure for them
By: Miles for Hope Brain tumors affect over 200,000 people each year, one person every 3 minutes in the United States. Miles for Hope, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, was founded by brain cancer survivor Robert Gibbs, as a means to increase funding to combat the disease. “Through our organization, patients can find information on the latest, most advanced options available for the treatment of brain tumors.” stated Gibbs. “Our mission is to raise awareness and funding for brain tumor research as well as cutting edge clinical trials leading to treatments that provide a better quality of life for brain tumor patients”. In addition to the ING Miami Marathon, Miles for Hope anticipates that during 2011, they will gain access to numerous other marathons and triathlons across the nation, including the New York Marathon in November of 2011. Team members will have access to comprehensive running and cycling training programs which have been put together by two of the nation’s best marathon and endurance trainers. Our running programs are compiled by Hal Higdon, a contributing editor for Runner’s World and author of a best-seller “Marathon: “Miles for Hope recognizes that when you choose to become a team member, you are not only making a commitment to yourself to achieve your personal goals, you are also making a commitment to help us raise awareness and better treatments for brain tumors by raising funds to save lives. Our commitment to you is the assurance that the money you raise will find better treatments such as vaccines and other cutting edge treatments that provide a better quality of life for brain tumor patients. We will do everything we can to assist you whether or not you have fundraising experience, we have helpful resources, tips, and suggestions that will help you meet and exceed your training and fundraising goals”, says Gibbs. Miles for Hope is the first organization in the country to be instrumental in giving patients the ability to store cancer tissue, like cord blood, for more personalized treatments and future access to cancer vaccine clinical trials as they move through the clinical trial process. In addition, Miles for Hope leads the way and provides access for patients to the most cutting edge clinical trials currently available for the treatment of brain tumors.
