Aug. 12, 2010 - PRLog -- Ann Arbor, Mich.  -- Social Media Marketing Magazine released a list of the top 67 marketing professors on Twitter, and arriving at number 23 is Derek Mehraban, CEO at Ingenex Digital Marketing and professor of Michigan State University’s New Media Driver’s License (SM).

The list is compiled by Kent Huffman, Co-Publisher of Social Media Marketing Magazine and Chief Marketing Officer at BearCom wireless.  Accompanying Mehraban are professors around the world who are also using Twitter to engage with interested followers.

To be eligible for the list of Social Media Marketing (SMM) Magazine’s Top Marketing Professors on Twitter, Mehraban (@Mehraban) is required to meet a number of criteria outside of being a marketing professor. Candidates are required to maintain 500 or more Twitter followers, provide useful information to and actively engaging with those followers and truly demonstrate an understanding of the best methods when using Twitter and other social media outlets.

Mehraban, began his role as a marketing and advertising professor at Michigan State University with the launch of the New Media Driver’s License course in the spring of 2009.  Designed by Mehraban and Dr. Richard Cole, Chairman of the Department of Advertising, Public Relations and Retailing at MSU, the course educates students on the practical application of emerging new media tools in the fields of marketing, advertising and public relations.  The buzz about the course has grown almost as fast as its enrollment, resulting in the addition of Michal Lorenc, Head of Dedicated Client Services at Google Canada, as a New Media Driver’s License professor. Information about the course professors can be found at http://NewMediaDL.com/the-instructors .

“The goal of the New Media Driver’s License is to certify students in new media so that they can go on after the conclusion of the course and use new media and digital marketing in their career, job search and everyday life,” said Mehraban. “The course has proven itself as a great learning experience for college students, which is why we also offer it as a life long education course and for corporations.”

The New Media Driver’s License is a semester-long new media training course that meets twice in-person and online weekly using the course site, http://NewMediaDL.com.  Through the duration of the course, students will meet the requirements for their New Media Driver’s License by completing assignments that demonstrate the importance of digital and social media marketing, develop effective blogging techniques and content, introduce the rules for online public relations, explain the functionality of Google and search engine optimization, develop digital presentation skills and build individual online profiles. The New Media Driver’s License is offered to corporations and as a life-long education course.
