Aug. 12, 2010 - PRLog -- The CENTRAL, Social Aid and Pleasure Club, the Westside’s newest event facility, for music, nightlife, art, culture and causes welcomes the gatling gun vocal stylings and poignant lyricism of hip-hop virtuoso BUSDRIVER along with Sister Crayon and Nocando on Saturday, August 14, 2010. This will be the first show at the new Santa Monica live music hall and DJ lounge. Doors at 7PM. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 day of show and available at www.centralsapc.com. The CENTRAL is located at 1348 14th Street in Santa Monica, CA.
Possessing an intellectual style of rapping augmented with inspiring tongue twisted lyrics, Busdriver is all that is eclectic and wonderfully eccentric. Born Regan Farquhar, the MC began rapping at age nine, releasing his first record at age 13 with his group, 4/29, named after the 1992 L.A. riots. By the mid-'90s, Busdriver was a regular at the Project Blowed open mic, where he would meet future collaborators and underground luminaries like Aceyalone, Abstract Rude, and Freestyle Fellowship. And shortly after, the vinyl did flow.
His next album, This Machine Kills Fashion Tips (2002), continued in a similar manner before being trumped by better production and more focused rhymes on Temporary Forever, later that same year. After then joining West Coast avant-garde MC, Radioinactive, and producer Daedelus, Busdriver released yet another odd puzzle piece of an album in 2003 entitled, Weather. Fear of a Black Tangent and Mush were then released in 2005. After moving to Anti-Epitaph, the rapper issued RoadKillOvercoat, which featured production from Nobody and Boom Bip. His second Anti- release, Jhelli Beam, appeared in 2009.

Also performing on August 14th are ambient electro artists Sister Crayon. Sister Crayon began with vocalist Terra Lopez playing classical guitar and pre-programmed beats on a loop pedal to attentive house crowds. With the addition of members Dani Fernandez (MPC 1000 and Microkorg), Jeff LaTour (Keyboards, Synths, and Guitar) and Nicholas Suhr (Drums and Percussion), Sister Crayon has emerged as a four-piece whose emotional live performances along with their styles of ambience, hip-hop, and “hysterical” have created a stir with their upcoming EP release, “Enter Into Holy (or)ders”. Inspired by the late French writer Jean Genet, “Holy (or)ders” is a sexual lament and sigh to the popular criminal. With their newest EP released in February 2010, Sister Crayon is touring nationally and internationally before releasing their full LP, “Bellow” in early 2011.

WHAT IS A SOCIAL AID & PLEASURE CLUB??
The main purpose of a Social Aid & Pleasure Club is to unify communities and neighbors.  Social Aid & Pleasure clubs originated in New Orleans and were a source of pride among African Americans, always involving music.  Members stemmed from the 1800 organizations called “benevolent societies.”  These societies helped dues-paying members of the Pleasure Clubs with financial hardships, anything from health-care to funerals.  Benevolent societies fostered a sense of unity in the community, hosting events and charity.  Today, Pleasure Clubs still bring people together to enjoy and rejoice to good music and are great venues for the benefit of non-profit organizations.
