Bharti Airtel customer base up 71% in Q2 10

Aug. 11, 2010 - PRLog -- Bharti Airtel, the leading global telecommunications company with operations in 18 countries across Asia and Africa, announced today its financial results for the last quarter, ending 30 June, 2010. At the end of this quarter, the company had a total of 183,4 million customers, among which 177 million are Mobile users, 3,2  million Telemedia subscribers and 3,2 million Digital TV customers. Its total customer base increased by 71.3% compared to the same period last year.

During the quarter, the company recorded revenues of Rs 122,308mn ($ 2627 million), a growth of 17.4% compared to the same period last year. Revenues from mobile services represented 80.0% of the total revenues followed by non-voice revenue which contributed to approximately 14.7%.

Despite this increase in the revenues, Bharti profit slumped 32 percent after the nation’s phone companies cut prices to compete in the world’s second-largest wireless market. Net income shrank to 16.8 billion rupees ($361 million) in the first quarter ended June 30, from 24.7 billion rupees a year earlier.
