Dryer Vent Installation Hartford Wizard Explains how a Simple Concept can be Complicated

Dryer exhaust is a simple theory; yet, a small mistake when installing a dryer vent system can be fatal

Aug. 9, 2010 - PRLog -- Hartford, CT – Dryer vent installation is not too hard to do; however, there are some things homeowners need to know if they are doing the job themselves.  John Moffat, owner of Dryer Vent Wizard, recommends professional dryer vent installation to avoid a potential fire hazard.

“Many homeowners will purchase a kit from their local home improvement store and install it themselves,” said Moffat.  “They might choose a vinyl, corrugated material that is cheap and easy to install.  Few are aware of the potential danger associated with this inferior dryer vent system.”

Dryer exhaust safety codes call for a solid metal dryer vent system that is installed properly to allow adequate air flow for maximum dryer performance.  The dryer duct should be smooth inside and installed so that is it as short and straight as possible to increase air flow.  Longer dryer vent systems with bends and turns will hinder air flow and allow lint to build up more quickly.

“It is more difficult to push air through a longer dryer vent system because the air inside has weight and volume,” explained Moffat.  The average clothes dryer can handle venting through about 20 feet if there are no bends or turns.  The length should be reduced when 45 or 90 degree elbows are necessary.”

Poorly installed dryer vent systems can allow lint to build up and block air flow.  The normal drum temperature of 175 degrees can quickly increase to 300 degrees or more, eventually becoming hot enough to ignite the flammable lint.  “All it takes is a spark from inside the dryer,” said Moffat.   “An overworked clothes dryer is very likely to throw a spark into the dryer duct where the lint is lurking.”

John Moffat specializes in dryer vent installation and maintenance for homes and business while he educates consumers on dryer fire prevention and energy savings.  “We install the very best dryer vent systems to meet current safety codes,” explained Moffat.  “However, even a professionally installed dryer vent system requires maintenance.  We recommend dryer vent cleaning annually to ensure safe and efficient dryer performance.”

Services performed by the Wizard ensure clothes dryers are fire-safe and energy efficient.  Each Dryer Vent Wizard is independently owned and operated; but all Wizards are working toward a common goal to make one million clothes dryers safer and greener each year.  Visit http://www.dryerventcleaninghartford.com/ to learn more.
