Khoa D. Le spent about a 1000 hours educating himself in filmmaking before doing his first test shoot. He learned the art of cinematography, work flow, and creating a visual story just by reading information on the internet. He would also study movies, lighting work, and learned photography for a better understanding of the visual arts.
He said: "Without a budget to pay professionals, I had no choice but to learn everything on my own and invest in various equipments for the long-term. It would be good to know a little of everything so when I'm directing a budgeted film, I'll have a stronger understanding of what the roles entail and be able to communicate in their technical language."
Many filmmakers are limited to making quality films because of the lack of knowledge in certain fields. If they don't have a budget or can't pull any favors from others, it's difficult to make a quality film that involves good cinematography, sound, story, and etc. Khoa D. Le said: "It's good to keep educating yourself and learn things you don't know until you can obtain a decent budget to hire professionals to make quality films. I don't like waiting on anyone. If I want to move forward with my career, I need to educate myself, create quality films, and leverage my hard work to move onto bigger projects."
So far, Khoa D. Le's hard work has been paying off as his first two films have been accepted for Mobile Distribution through Goliath Promotions. His first film titled "Denial" was accepted into the New York International Film and Video Festival (NYIFF) and was apart of a sold out screening block.
Khoa's thoughts were: "It was my first time speaking in front of an audience about my film and about myself. I loved the experienced and I look forward to many more."
