Aug. 8, 2010 - PRLog -- There are social network websites that are created for specific things; there have been for a while now. If you are an avid reader you can use Goodreads. If you really like chrome rims you can join Dubs. If you are a big fan of a musical group or movie there are sites for that as well. There is no limit to the niche possibilities of these modern day social clubs.

People who are non-believing in the provability of the existence of GOD or those who consider themselves atheists have not had many options with these sites in the past. There have been groups formed on many of the larger generalized network sites such as MySpace, Facebook and LinkedIn. They are still limited to a small interaction of sending messages to each other, but no freedom to be who they are on a completely private network.

AtheistNexus.org was the first site that was started. It was pretty standard as far as social sites go. Then I started to read the blog posts and came across a startling realization. Almost all of the posts had a very negative perspective. People debated each other until it turned ugly with personal attacks that were completely irrelevant to the original argument. It was not what I had expected. The fact that they ask for members to pay their bills was the last straw. I did not donate any money and quickly clicked off.

Next I came across ThinkAtheist.com. It was more visually pleasing then AtheistNexus.org. Their logo is on everything and they advertise their products on almost every page. I think they think that thinking atheist means to where shirts that read: "I Think Atheist." It was an ok site, but they also ask members to donate money like a southern preacher who wants a new caddy. I think thinking means to make my own decisions, so I decided to leave without a new shirt or calendar or you get the picture.

The last site that I think you'll need is called AtheistSocial.com. It is newer than the other two and does not depend on donations to exist. It did not feel like a church. On AtheistSocial.com you are treated to a private social network where only the members can view inside the site; only the homepage is visible to non-members. Unlike similar site: atheistnexus which is completely open to viewing by anyone who happens to come across it. I like privacy, most people do too.

The people at AtheistSocial have done a great job of providing a social network service for people who are atheists, humanists and freethinkers. There is a real need for this site as there is an estimated 20 million people in the United States of America who do not claim a religious preference or belief system. According to The Barna Group; 2 million of those people say they are atheist and another 3 say they are agnostic.

Everything that you can do on one of the bigger generalized social sites can be enjoyed on this one. You can send email, you can chat, you can video chat, listen to their talk radio programs, play games, post a classified listing; plus they have the "Our Friends" page with offers from shops that give discounts to their members. If you want what AtheistSocial.com has to offer, you will not be disappointed.
