Aug. 5, 2010 - PRLog -- ATLANTA, Ga., August 5, 2010 -- On Saturday August 7, local fitness trainer Amia Freeman and Judge Glenda Hatchett will launch The Fit Family Fun Fest to help families pledge to make one more step toward better health. Supported by a grant from Aetna, the Fit Family Fun Fest is one component of Judge Glenda Hatchett’s ParentPowerNow! anti-obesity program, proclaiming: ‘Obesity Doesn’t Live Here Anymore’.

“Parent Power Now!” is an online community of people interested in working together and learning more about parenting. Aetna has awarded a $75,000 grant and will provide health content for the ParentPowerNow! website, guest speakers to address healthy living on Judge Hatchett’s live website radio program, and support for health events scheduled around the country.

Amia Freeman, a certified personal trainer and parent, joined the campaign to support and show families just how easy it is to exercise and eat healthy.
“The verdict is in, obesity is a reality and the fact that it’s been labeled an epidemic could either scare us motionless or empower us to move. My goal is to fuel the movement and help parents recognize as Judge Hatchett says, it only takes 1 more positive choice.”

One more simple movement, one move fruit & veggie, one more bottle of water; the pledge that will combat obesity is being charged to parents everywhere by Judge Hatchett.
Parents have the opportunity to make their pledge at Fit Family Fun Festival kickoff events scheduled for August 7 in Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas Los Angeles, and Philadelphia. Amia will offer fitness demonstrations and nutrition support to get participants hearts pumpin’ during a mall-based community walk and information booths and screenings for things such as diabetes and hypertension.
ParentPowernow continues through the school year with online community participants being encouraged to set health goals for themselves. The website will have health tips, health links, interactive exercise and diet diaries, and will challenge people to incorporate more exercise, fruits and vegetables into their lives, starting with a family five-minute morning movement session. In addition, health speakers will address the nation every second Monday night with live talks on the ParentPowerNow! live website radio program.

“For the first time in history, the nation’s children have a shorter life expectancy than their parents. This can be directly attributed to a lack of exercise and poor diet. Through our ParentPowerNow! program, we want to give people the tools to improve their health – to help children improve their life expectancy and to help parents live long enough to enjoy their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren” said Judge Hatchett.
