New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez has hit his 600th home run, becoming, at 35, the youngest baseball player to reach 600.
Rodriguez homered, with Derek Jeter on base, to straightaway center field on a 2-0 pitch from Toronto Blue Jays righthander Shaun Marcum in the first inning of the game at Yankees Stadium.

Rodriguez, who hit his 500th home run three years ago today, is the seventh baseball player with 600 homers. Ahead of him are: Barry Bonds, Hank Aaron, Babe Ruth, Willie Mays, Ken Griffey Jr. and Sammy Sosa (A-Rod's next target with 609).
The homer broke a 12-game homerless streak for Rodriguez, who has 17 for the season.
Reaching the 600 mark is not without controversy for Rodriguez -- and not because, in his latest tabloid back-page episode he drew an "A-WOL" headline for missing the Yankees' team photo on Tuesday. He admitted taking performance-enhancing drugs when he played for the Texas Rangers. He reportedly also was a patient of Dr. Anthony Galea, a Toronto doctor who is under investigation for distribution of human growth hormone to athletes
