Brain tumors affect over 200,000 people each year, one person every 3 minutes in the United States. Miles for Hope, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, was founded by brain cancer survivor Robert Gibbs, as a means to increase funding to combat the disease. “Through our organization, patients can find information on the latest, most advanced options available for the treatment of brain tumors and brain cancer.” stated Gibbs. “Our mission is to raise awareness and funding for brain tumor research as well as cutting edge clinical trials leading to treatments that provide a better quality of life for brain tumor patients”.
The Moving Towards A Cure℠ event in Clearwater offers registrants the opportunity to run, walk or cycle with friends, family and co-workers to help raise critically needed funding for cutting edge research. Gibbs’
Registered participants in the event will receive breakfast, provided by Panera Bread, and lunch provided by Hooters’, Tony’s Pizzerea, Pepsi and Michelob Ultra. There will be three cycling routes including 25k, 50k and 100k and, a 5k chip-timed run/walk as well as a 1 mile family fun run/walk. There will also be entertainment and activities for the children. Awards will be given for the 5k run as well as for the largest team and individual fundraising efforts. All participants will receive a commemorative finishing medal for participating in and finishing the event.
Miles for Hope is the first organization in the country to be instrumental in giving patients the ability to store cancer tissue, like cord blood for more personalized treatments and future access to cancer vaccine clinical trials as they move through the clinical trial process. In addition, Miles for Hope leads the way and provides access for patients to the most cutting edge clinical trials currently available for the treatment of brain tumors.
