Aug. 4, 2010 - PRLog -- French wine is produced in various regions all around France, it is estimated that between 50 and 60 million Hectolitres per year or 7/8 billion bottles are made.  France has the second largest vineyard  area behind Spain and rivals Italy as the world's largest wine producer. Wine making is a delicate process for example the same grape variety can yield various different results depending on the soil and climate conditions. Some villas in France have their own Wineries with the vicinity and they also might allow you to help with the process whether it'd be squeezing the grapes (if they do it manually) or picking the grapes.

Wine needs time to mature and show its true style and personality.  It needs protection from high and low temperature, humidity, vibration and air circulation.

When the bottle is kept in a good condition, like a wine cooler, the process of Maturing the wine depends on where the wine is coming from. The terroir, the weather , soil, grapes and wine making techniques all have their hand in the process. Terroir is a group of vineyards that come from the same region and belong to a specific appellation and shares the same type of soil, weather conditions, grapes and wine making.

The name of the terroir, usually an AOC, is written on the label such as 'appellation saint controlée' this is a way to tell you how many years a wine has matured if you know about the regions.  For example in the south west region Bergerac red has to mature for two to four years before it has matured to an perfect taste while the Bergerac White and Rosé has to be drank straight away. There are special cases, though. For example, most of the champagne produced is meant to be drank young but can be aged up to 10 or 15 years.

Bordeaux is the most area in France when it comes to wine. Located along the Atlantic Ocean, in the south west region of the country. Bordeaux hosts some of the most  famous wineries such as Petrus, Margaux, Cheval Blanc, Haut Brion, Mouton Rothschild, Yquem and many others. Also boasts the most famous wine areas such as Margaux, Pauillac, Saint Emilion, Pomerol and Sauternes in total there are about 21 appellations in Bordeaux. But there are some people that dispute that Bordeaux isn't the best Wine making area in France, these are the mainly the people from Burgundy. They will tell you that their region Burgundy / Bourgogne presents the best wine such as Romanée Conti, Clos Vougeot, Pommard and Meursault also claiming that those are among the best in world.

The French like to eat cheese with wine, maybe you would like to try this if you are staying in one of the many villas in France as it is a unique cultured experience that you may not be use to
If you ask me France has a great variety of wines that comes from different regions. As each of them have their own unique and is specific to them.
