Aug. 3, 2010 - PRLog -- Orange Beach, AL – August 3, 2010 – Today, the Beach Express (BEX) toll road at www.beachexpress.com, announced that they are participating in the “Cell Phones for Soldiers” program again at www.cellphonesforsoldiers.com. Now through September 12th, travelers can drop off their used cell phones, MP3 players and iPods at the toll booth or plaza office at 22867 Brown Lane to help soldiers call home.

“Cell Phones for Soldiers has already provided more than 60,000,000 minutes of free calling cards to soldiers so they can call home free of charge,” states Chris Musgrove, BEX Manager. “By providing a fast, drop-off station at the Beach Express, we hope to make it easy for the local community to donate to this worthy cause. This program has been successful at all of the American Roads’ toll facilities.”

To donate used cell phones, MP3 players and iPods, travelers simply need to:

1. Deactivate the phone or player(s), and turn off the power.

2. Keep the battery attached to the phone. If the battery is not attached, place tape over the battery area.

3. Drop the items off at the BEX toll booth or plaza office at 22867 Brown Lane, Orange Beach.

Founded in 2004 by teenagers Brittany and Robbie Bergquist of Norwell MA, Cell Phones for Soldiers is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Under the program, cell phones are recycled for cash, and the proceeds are used to buy prepaid calling cards for our soldiers serving in the Middle East. Their goal is to provide every U.S. soldier with a way to call home for free.

“There are more than 130 million phones retired every year in the United States,” states Robbie Bergquist, co-founder of Cell Phones for Soldiers. “If just 2% of all American’s were to donate their phones, we could supply every troop with a phone as a small measure of the gratitude of a nation.”

For more information on this worthy cause, please visit www.beachexpress.com or http://www.cellphonesforsoldiers.com, call 251-968-3415 or stop by the BEX plaza or office at 22867 Brown Lane.
