The Hyundai Sonata Turbo has a 2.0 liter four-cylinder engine that provides 274 horsepower and a combined fuel economy of 32 miles per gallon. Kansas City used Hyundai Santa Fe drivers may be interested to know that the Sonata Turbo’s estimated 34 miles per gallon on the highway and 22 miles per gallon in the city beats its rival’s ratings.
The Hyundai Sonata Turbo obtains V6 like power and four-cylinder fuel economy by combining direct injection with turbocharging. The Sonata Turbo grafts turbocharging on an engine that is similar to the base Sonata. The Turbo’s engine is 0.4 liters smaller, but has a twin-scroll turbocharger to inject forced air into it. Gasoline is directly injected into the cylinders and there are no spark plugs. The Sonata Turbo does not have the noise and vibration typical in turbocharged vehicles.
