Boca Raton, Fla., - July 30, 2010 – Bluegreen Corporation (NYSE: BXG), a leading provider of Colorful Places to Live and Play, today announced that their Florida Keys resort, The Hammocks at Marathon, has been awarded the Two-Palm Certification by the Marathon Chamber of Commerce for their continued environmental conservation efforts. To be awarded the Two-Palm Certification, Bluegreen’s Florida Keys resort must adhere to the guidelines set forth by the Florida Green Lodging Program (FGLP).
Bluegreen’s Hammocks at Marathon resort assembled a ‘Green Team’ to help ensure that all the environmental practices, in which the resort is participating, are being performed timely and correctly. Qualification for the Two-Palm Certification is based on the participation and completion of six specific categories: Commitment to Environmental Performance;
“The resort staff at The Hammocks at Marathon has worked diligently to implement the essential programs and processes to adhere to the standards set forth by the Florida Green Lodging Program,” said Dave Pontius, President of Bluegreen’s Resort Division. “We will continue our conservation efforts and ‘green’ initiatives across all of our resorts and we plan to take the necessary measures to help promote environmental conservation to our guests.”
Through May 2009, Bluegreen’s The Hammocks at Marathon was able to save over two-million gallons of water and over 71,000kwh of energy alone without even mentioning additional paper conservation, recycling efforts and other green initiatives. In addition to earning the Florida Green Lodging Program’s Two-Palm Certification, The Hammocks at Marathon resort also became a Business Member of the Florida Keys Green Living and Energy Education (GLEE) and was awarded GLEE’s 2009 2nd Annual Green Living Award.
