Jul 30, 2010 – Soaring energy prices are encouraging more North West businesses to consider the benefits of harnessing free solar power, according to Manchester’s Mr Carbon Neutral, green pioneer Stephan Beech.
For the long term savings in reduced power bills can more than cover the cost of installing solar power, said the MD of Rusholme based Beech Solar who are targeting more business users than ever.
“The incentives to invest in solar power are still compelling with individuals able to sell unused units of power back to the National Grid,” added Stephen. “For every pound you spend on solar panels, it is possible to get £4 back thanks to generous Government grants. However that level of support will change in 2012 so its important to get your applications in now.”
Most of Beech Solar’s work so far has been with domestic customers but Stephen believes that could change soon following a growing number of exploratory inquiries from businesses.
“Solar power technology is tried and tested and users can calculate the financial benefits with accuracy. Solar panels are now less expensive than ever and more efficient in converting natural light into electricity.
“Business owners are beginning to do the sums. They can cash in on free energy by installing solar panels and make money by selling excess power back to the grid. With experts forecasting a tripling of energy prices by 2015, there has never been a better time to go solar powered.
“Businesses are now making inquiries with us and we are always happy to provide an assessment of the potential benefits for them. We often get asked whether premises need a flat roof to install solar panels, well it is not essential.”
Stephen has been dubbed Manchester’s Mr Carbon Neutral in recognition of his creation of 50 ultra-energy efficient student rooms let by another of his companies, Beech Properties, across South Manchester.
All of the rooms have achieved Carbon Neutral status thanks to the super insulation process used by his company. In fact some of those properties are so energy efficient, that just switching on a desktop PC is sufficient to provide ample heat for an entire room.
Beech Properties recently won a Consumer Benefit Award in recognition of the energy efficiency of its student rooms at the Energy Innovation Awards.
“I’m committed to demonstrating that green is not only good for the environment – it’s good for business too,” he added.
