PRLog (Press Release) - Jul. 29, 2010 - Keeping the attention of children, especially those between the ages of 1 and 8, is no easy task. “The Bugs” a singing duo composed of Pete Montgomery and Maura Young do it through their music. And this spring they had an even better idea – animated characters to accompany their songs.

To make this a reality, they contacted a fellow parent, Jason Wiener, a member of the Media Arts & Animation faculty at The New England Institute of Art (www.artinstitutes.edu/boston) and asked for help. Jason embraced the idea and thought it would be the perfect assignment for his Team Production class. In the past, Wiener and his students have produced animation for Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center’s walking program and the USS Constitution Museum and this was right up his alley.

“The Bugs” philosophy is, through their music, to educate and help kids solve problems. The students created five short films based on the playful, musical messages of five songs from "The Bugs" first album, "Buggin' Out" to enhance these messages.

The animations will be shown on Wednesday, August 11, when “The Bugs”
offer a children’s music performance at the Brookline Booksmith, Harvard Avenue in Brookline. “The animation will be projected on the wall and the Animation students will be on hand to watch the results of their labors,” says Jason Wiener. “Part of this class is to learn the value of using your talents to be of service to the community. “The Bugs” and I couldn’t think of a better way to do this than to offer a free concert.”

The one-hour, animation-enhanced concert, which is open at no charge to the public, will begin in the downstairs area of the Brookline Booksmith, 279 Harvard Street, in Coolidge Corner at 3:30pm, August 11. For more information, call 617 582-4442.
