Redwood Credit Union Hosts Free Community Shred and Security Event on August 14, 2010

July 29, 2010 - PRLog -- Redwood Credit Union (RCU) will host a free information security event for RCU Members and the community on Saturday, August 14th from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at their Administrative Offices located at 3033 Cleveland Avenue in Santa Rosa. The event will include free document shredding provided by Shred-It and Integrity Shred, as well as an eWaste recycle center provided by GoodWill Industries of the Redwood Empire.

The event will also feature a free educational seminar on preventing identity theft and fraud titled Protect Your Future: New Trends in Identity Theft, which begins at 10:30 am. The seminar is in English, but bilingual resources will also be available for Spanish-speaking attendees. All seminar attendees will be entered into a drawing for a personal shredder.

“We are committed to helping our Members and our communities protect themselves against the ever-increasing threats of identity theft and fraud by offering this free opportunity to shred sensitive documents and learn about other preventative measures that they can take,” said RCU President & CEO Brett Martinez.

One of the easiest and most effective precautions against identity theft is to shred documents that contain sensitive data, such as old financial statements, canceled checks, credit card offers, and other outdated documents containing personal information. Attendees may bring up to 3 banker-sized boxes of documents for shredding. Acceptable items for eWaste recycling include computer components (CPUs, monitors, printers, ink cartridges), small office equipment (copiers and fax machines), and personal electronics (cell phones, CD and DVD players, televisions) and more.
