July 29, 2010 - PRLog -- To mark the launch of Barclay’s Cycle Hire Scheme by Transport for London this Friday; Cyclehoop, the UK’s leading innovator in bicycle street furniture, has launched a range of safety-conscious fluorescent T-Shirts sporting the logo ‘I Bike LDN’ in a reflective print. The shirts are available in a range of colours and styles, and aim to promote the cycle hire scheme; encouraging cyclists from all around the city to take part.

www.ibikelondon.com launched the range of ‘I Bike LDN’ T-Shirts to promote and celebrate the increasing cycling culture across London as encouraged by the Cycle Hire Scheme; making them in a range of fluorescent colours to double up as a means of increasing cyclists’ visibility to others. Buyers have a range of different bicycle designs to choose from on the T-Shirts, including a classic roadster, fixed gear bike and a Brompton folding bike. Available at a price of £20 including free delivery, the T-Shirt range will soon grow to include a range of cities across Britain in order to promote the same pro-cycling message.

A new special edition T-Shirt design will also be available to cyclists as of tomorrow; featuring a print of the Barclay’s Cycle Hire bicycle. The T-Shirt will be printed using reflective ink, in order for car headlights to pick up the outlines at night. The back of the T-Shirt will also feature a license plate style graphic in reflective print, sporting the letters ‘B1K3 LDN’.

The Barclay’s Cycle Hire Scheme itself is being launched this Friday by Transport for London, and will allow people access to bike hire from 400 docking stations placed all around the City. 6,000 bikes will be available for rental, and users will be able to pick up and deposit bikes around the city at their disposal. Users will be required to pay a £1 per day access charge, with the first half an hour of any cycle journey free. Furthermore, users are able to make an unlimited number of 30 minute journeys in any one day.

Anthony Lau, Managing Director of Cyclehoop and founder of ibikeLDN, had the following to say:

“We wanted to launch a clothing product that would really help to promote the new Barclay’s Cycle Hire initiative; so we thought that combining the catchy ‘I Bike LDN’ logo with the safety-conscious colours would be a great way in which to do so. Not only can cyclists share the message that they are part of the cycling revolution, but the eye-catching colours will help to increase their visibility on the streets - something that is important with so many new cyclists riding in London’s traffic.”

He continued:

“The Cycle Hire Scheme itself is a fantastic concept, and has worked well for other cities around the world, such Paris. Considering the fact that cycling across London has increased drastically in the past few years, this suggests that this could be a huge success; especially given the convenience and financial benefits. We really hope that these T-Shirts will help to spread to cycling message across not only London but the rest of the UK; helping to persuade people that they too will want to become part of the ‘I Bike LDN’ revolution.”

The T-Shirts come as part of a larger initiative by Cyclehoop to promote cycling across Britain, by making cities more sufficient in their provision of bicycle parking. The Cyclehoop itself is an award-winning design, providing a means of reducing street clutter by transforming existing ‘street furniture,’ such as lampposts and signposts, into easy and efficient parking facilities for bicycles. Cyclehoops not only prevents bicycles falling over, but significantly reduce the possibility of theft in areas where parking is minimal. The design won the Reinventing the Bike Shed international design competition in 2006, and has subsequently been installed by numerous local authorities across the United Kingdom.
