PRLog (Press Release) - Jul 29, 2010 -
Acne is the most common problem that affects the teenagers and the middle aged people. Acne is one of the serious problems in terms of affecting the person’s confidence level and comfortable public appearance.

There are several medications and treatments available for solving this problem. Choosing the right kind of treatment and the physician is important. From among the various treatments that are available, procedural acne treatment is one of the options.

Procedural acne treatment is performed by an esthetician, or a dermatologist or a health-care practitioner. This kind of treatment is preferred in case of mild or severe acne. This treatment includes several therapies that are supportive and used along with the systematic or topical treatments. The procedural acne treatment includes the following:

• Chemical peels: Do not get frightened by the word “peeling” used in the name. Peeling doesn’t mean peeling the skin instead it refers to the thorough exfoliation of the skin using glycolic acid, beta hydroxy or alpha hydroxy. This kind of treatment removes the dead skin cells and helps in clearing the debris stagnant in the pores. These chemical peels are also incorporated in the facials by the estheticians, in case of persons suffering from mild or moderate acne. For people suffering from severe acne, this procedure has to be performed by a dermatologist.

• Comedo extractions:  these are normally performed by estheticians while doing a facial. This includes gentle coaxing of the sebum and the cellular debris that is in the pore. Removing milia, blackheads and the comedones that are soft, reduces the eruption of acne, to a great extent. In case, there are lesions or cysts, you will have to approach a dermatologist for extracting them surgically.

• Corticosteroid injections: If serious lesions exist, the dermatologist injects corticosteroid that reduces the inflammation and scars.

• Phototherapy: This kind of acne treatment uses laser which kills the P. acne, shrink the sebaceous glands or reduces inflammation. This treatment can cure all acne from mild to severe ones.
