By: The Academy for Performing Arts, Columbus Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for seniors and children and can be purchased online at http://12angrymen.eventbrite.com or on an “as available” basis at the door. Advance ticket purchase is recommended. The classic drama depicts a jury room deliberation to decide the fate of a troubled young man from the wrong side of the tracks who is accused of knifing his father to death. The evidence, and jury prejudices, appear to be overwhelmingly against the accused. But a lone holdout argues that the evidence is flawed. Will his arguments be convincing enough to turn the tide? Anchoring the cast are three of Central Ohio’s busiest, most experienced actors: Don Roberts, Scott Willis and Tim Dougherty. The three men have been active on the local theatre scene for many years and collectively bring more than 50 years of acting experience to the production. “We’re fortunate to get Scott and Tim,” said Don Roberts, TAPA’s Artistic Director, who plays the role of Juror # 10. “Because of their talent and experience it seems these two guys are always busy with one production or another. That said, I think we have a strong cast across the board. If everything comes together like I think it will, we should have a very entertaining show.” "Twelve Angry Men" was originally staged in 1954 as a live TV broadcast on CBS. The production won three Emmy Awards. In 1957 the show was made into a critically acclaimed film directed by Sidney Lumet and starring Henry Fonda and an all-star cast. The film garnered three Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director. Fifty years after its television debut "Twelve Angry Men" opened on Broadway where it ran for 328 performances, earning both a Tony and a Drama Desk Award. The TAPA, Columbus production is being directed by Dan Stanton, another longtime presence in Central Ohio theater. “This story is as relevant and engaging as it ever was,” said Stanton. “It addresses topics such as race, immigration, ageism, the American system of jurisprudence and of course the universal topics of life and death.” Continued Stanton: “Plus, the fact that we’re staging it in an actual courtroom will make for a unique theater-going experience.” Rounding out the cast are Rich Bloom, Rick Isbell, Drew Washburn, Erik Binion, Mark Narens, Bill White, Donnie Lockwood, Carl Waters, Ernie Nicastro, Dan Threadgill and Bob Kile. The show is suitable for ages 13 and up. Group discounts (blocks of ten or more tickets) are available.
