Crystal View - A New Affordable Rental Community Now Open in Urbana

Crystal View, a new multi-generational affordable rental community in Urbana, IL, is now open.  Located at 102 East Stebbins Drive, across from the popular Crystal Lake Recreational Park, Crystal View has a wide variety of living options from two, three and four bedroom apartments, townhomes and single-family homes.  Crystal View’s rent structure is very affordable and is calculated based on income.

Crystal View is an advanced green community that helps protect environmental resources and offers energy savings to residents.  The private community clubhouse utilized recycled content products wherever possible and solar panels are used to reduce energy consumption.  Inside each rental home energy-saving features are installed like geothermal heating, cooling and hot water systems.  Homes are also equipped with high energy efficient appliances to reduce utility expenses.

The green concept extends to the community plan as well.  Crystal View is in a quiet park-like setting.  All buildings face a pedestrian friendly street with sidewalks and landscaped green areas.  The picturesque Saline Creek runs along side of the community.

The heart of the community is the state-of-the-art clubhouse where residents have access to a meeting room with fireplace, a fully equipped exercise room and a computer/business center.  Just outside the clubhouse is a children’s play area with plenty of seating for the family and friends.

Crystal View was co-developed by Brinshore Development of Northbrook, Illinois and The Homestead Corporation of Champaign-Urbana.  Mayor Laurel Prussing of Urbana was an effective force working with all the numerous groups to make Crystal View Urbana’s newest affordable rental community.  Edward Bland of the Housing Authority of Champaign County and Gloria L. Materre, Executive Director of Illinois Housing Development Authority (IHDA) provided their expertise and support for Crystal View from the very beginning.

Financing was primarily provided by JPMorgan Chase, IFF, a community development financial institution and The Federal Home Loan Bank of Chicago.  Crystal View was designed by Landon Bone Baker Architects of Chicago.  The community was built by Frank Baxter, General Contractor, Inc.  The Carle Foundation Hospital generously donated computer equipment for  resident’s use in the clubhouse.  On site management is provided by Ludwig and Company.
