Nelson describes how she created the project based on the only item they both loved, a $5 African textile and a laundry list of what they didn’t like.

In this exclusive interview for HGTV Kristi Nelson talks about updating a 1930’s English cottage in the Hollywood Hills.
“My clients arrived in Los Angeles with their toddler and a second child on the way, searching for a house with easy access to work and good public schools. They landed in Nichols Canyon, in a charming 1930s English stucco cottage with spectacular views, dated interiors, a tired exterior and just enough furniture to eat and sleep on. They had no idea where and how to begin, or even what they liked — just what they didn’t. I was hired to not only update the living room and dining room from floor to ceiling, but to also furnish and accessorize it — all before the birth of child number two.” That first dictate led to the successful collaboration on the rest of the home inside and out.
The result: a modern blend of contemporary and traditional elements combining to create a personal portrait of their eclectic tastes and family-friendly life style. Followers of “Design Happens” praised the interiors for being “very chic”, “comfortable”
Nelson got her start eleven years ago in residential interior design; rapidly building a reputation as one of LA’s leading interior designers. Eight years ago, she launched her own firm, KMNelson Design, specializing in high-end residential work.
