For one Central Florida mom, the end of summer 2010 means more than just the kids going back to school, it is the celebration of the anniversary of her blog TheSuburbanMom.com and nearly 700 posts. While the biological transition to motherhood takes approximately nine months, the actual realization of what that transition means often takes place in a single moment. For Jennifer Burg it was a conversation with a high school friend that brought that reality into focus – more than a year after her daughter was born. Logically, everyone knows their life will change forever the day a baby is brought into a family, but there are so many changes all at once that sometimes it takes perspective to see how much things have changed.
From a life of nights out, dinners with friends, travel and a general carefree spirit to a life of play dates, toys from one end of the house to the other, movies on the couch, trips to Disney and oodles of responsibility – Jennifer Burg realized she had become TheSuburbanMom. And guess what? She loved it.
From the moment reality set in, Jennifer realized she was not alone. Part of the reason it took so long to see how much had changed was that she was surrounded by other suburban moms, which meant there must be others. As an avid writer, Jennifer discovered an outlet for her writing in connecting with suburban moms all over in the form of her blog www.TheSuburbanMom, and this month she happily celebrates its first anniversary.
