PRLog (Press Release) - Jul 23, 2010 -
Lonnie K. 42, of Connellsville, PA found out three weeks ago that he only had a short time to live. He was diagnosed with end-stage liver disease. This news was devastating to him and his wife, Bobbie, their children and families. Unity, A Journey of Hope, a non-profit charity organization that grants wishes to adults with life-limiting illnesses stepped up to grant a wish to Lonnie. When asked what he wished for, Lonnie stated that he never had a “real” wedding and wanted to give that to his wife. With less than two weeks to plan a wedding, Unity volunteers feverishly worked to plan a wedding, and accomplished it in under three days! The Wedding is slated for August 1, 2010 for a renewal of vows ceremony at Juniata United Methodist Church, 4 pm, with a reception following at The Sons of Italy Hall in Connellsville from 5 pm to 10 pm. Unity secured donations for the entire wedding, including the wedding rings, church, hall, catering, cake, Bride’s dress, Tux for the groom and limousine. In 2001 Bobbi and John purchased an old schoolhouse built circa 1854, known to neighbors as "The Unity School."

Following a life-time dream John & Bobbi remodeled their home in 2001 and in September of 2005, they opened "Unity a Journey Home, llc" Southwestern Pennsylvania's first residential hospice house. Each resident was granted wish(s) as part of the care and therapy they received. During the operation of the hospice granting wishes as Unity does now was never a thought until much later.

In August of 2007 Bobbi & John decided to create a non-profit that grants wishes not only to their residents, but they extended their hands to the surrounding community in order to grant wishes.

This endeavor has proven to be a true blessing to the Robinson's. The hospice house is no longer in operation, but it was a stepping stone to what is now named "Unity, A Journey of Hope." Granting wishes to adults with life-limiting illnesses.

"Change one life, one wish at a time..."
