TIME & Frequency Solutions (TFS), manufacturers of precision timing systems, have increased the range of platforms available for their innovative PTP8 Slave Network Time Client.
Precise Time Protocol (PTP), as described in the IEEE 1588-2008 version 2 standard, enables extremely precise synchronisation of networks with an absolute timing accuracy of better than 100 nanoseconds to UTC, using hardware-generated timestamps. This improves significantly on the accuracy of network-distributed time over Network Time Protocol (NTP) servers.
The PTP8 Slave Network Time Client provides network service providers and equipment manufacturers with a packet-based timing and synchronisation solution. It is now available as a sleek stand-alone unit, a 1U-high rack-mountable unit and as an OEM board-level solution.
“PTP has diverse applications across a range of industries, and a choice of platforms ensures that all clients have the best solution for their needs,” explained Tim Beck, PTP Product Specialist for TFS.
All versions of the PTP8 eliminate the need to install embedded PTP client solutions thereby providing a rapid upgrade for deploying packet-based timing with an immediate cost saving and a quick return on investment.
In addition, the PTP8 Slave Network Time Client enables operators to lower operating costs migrating from a TDM to Ethernet backhaul and is equipped with E1/T1, 1PPS and 10MHz ports for synchronising remote network equipment such as UMTS, LTE, WiMAX and PON devices.
Other products in Time & Frequency Solution’s range of products utilising PTP include the PTP80 GrandMaster Clock , and the TimeSpy Elite and TimeSpy Elan Network Time Analysers. The PTP80 generates and distributes precisely synchronized time to remote PTP clients and slaves across packet networks, whereas the TimeSpy units precisely measure the difference between a time input and UTC. The functionality of the PTP80 GrandMaster Clock is also available as a module: Option 80 PTP GrandMaster which is compatible with the M210 and M211 Modular Timing Systems.
Typical applications for the PTP range include:
· LTE
· WiMAX
· Ethernet Backhaul
· Passive Optical Networks (PON)
· Circuit Emulation Services (CES)
· Electrical Power Utilities
