Smart water metering – the next step for utility companies

A new report predicts that smart water metering will be next on utility companies’ agendas as a response to water shortages.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) - Jul 23, 2010 -
Water scarcity is a looming issue that will affect nearly half the world’s population by 2030. Yet, Developing countries lose as much as 50% of treated water to distribution system leaks, theft, and poor measurement techniques.

Pike’s report says these factors will push water utilities to adopt smart metering. Smart water metering is a technology that adds consumption data collection and communications to water meters so that utilities and their customers can track usage and minimize waste.

The report says that while smart metering for electricity has yet to be rolled out on any scale in the UK, smart water metering will be next on utility companies’ agendas. It examines the worldwide market for smart water metering, including an in-depth analysis of market drivers and barriers, technology issues, and key industry dynamics with forecasts to 2016.
