July 23, 2010 - PRLog -- AS the school summer holidays get under way, Stamford Homes is warning adventure-seeking children, and their parents, about the dangers of building sites.

The stark message from the regional new homes builder comes as construction work on a series of new developments gets underway this summer.

Each year, many children are injured and some even killed as a result of construction site accidents in the UK, as youngsters seek out a seemingly exciting place to play.

Stamford Homes regional sales and marketing director Peter Bond said: "Understandably some children are drawn to construction sites as exciting places to play, but they are not playgrounds and playing on them can have fatal consequences.

“The school holidays present an ideal opportunity for a timely reminder to children and parents about the dangers of construction sites – almost all of which continue to remain active throughout the summer.

“Work on new developments across the region  - primarily at Castor in Peterborough and St Ives in Cambridgeshire - will start imminently, which will see a lot of construction vehicle and material movement around the site.”

Stamford Homes does have strict and visible guidelines in place at each construction site, and the company also organises supervised visits by schoolchildren, teachers and college students.

“We hope to organise more school visits in the new term to continue to re-inforce the message that building sites can spell serious danger for those unauthorised to set foot in or around them,” added Peter.

According to the Health & Safety Executive, three children died and 235 were injured during construction works in the UK between 2001/02 and 2004/05.
