BOHEMIA, NY, USA, 22 July 2010 – VJ Technologies, an industry leader in X-ray inspection products and technology headquartered in Bohemia, New York, USA, today officially opens its new high-energy x-ray facility.
Is 6 million electron-volts a lot of energy? Perhaps, but if you’re attempting to penetrate over 12 inches of solid steel with an x-ray source, it’s pretty standard stuff in the world of high-energy x-ray imaging.
In Bohemia, Long Island N.Y., such a facility was recently completed. Utilized primarily for industrial radiographic imaging, this rather large and heavily shielded containment cell houses an extremely powerful linear accelerator which is able to generate the high energies necessary to penetrate high-density materials.
This is the second of two private high energy x-ray cells designed and built by U.S. based VJ Technologies (VJT). The first facility is in East Haven, Ct. and was completed 2 years ago. Just in the past few years, VJT has designed, built, and equipped several of these x-ray facilities for U.S. and foreign governments and corporations.
Within these containment walls, high-energy imaging of objects such as munitions, turbine blades, and containers of nuclear materials occur. Life-cycle testing of materials and components can be performed while radiation-exposure levels can be tightly controlled to replicate accumulated levels and/or dosages.
