Saxony’s Lt. Governor Morlok Visits San Francisco Bay Area, Cleantech Hotspots

Germany’s State of Saxony Promotes Regions Advantages as Business Location

July 21, 2010 - PRLog -- San Francisco, CA: Sven Morlok, Lt. Governor and Secretary of Economic Affairs, Labor and Transport of the State of Saxony, and his delegation visited the San Francisco Bay Area this week. They introduced the State of Saxony to U.S. business leaders, highlighting the advantages the region has to offer as a business location particularly for the cleantech industry – from renewable energy and energy efficiency to electro mobility. The delegation met with leading cleantech companies including Tesla Motors, Better Place and Aurora Biofuels and attended the SEMICON West and Intersolar trade shows in San Francisco, on occasion of which they invited to a Saxony Evening Reception hosted by the German American Chamber of Commerce, Inc., California Branch.

The State of Saxony, a prime location in Europe for microelectronics, IT, automotive and photovoltaics, has received recognition for its innovation and technological development. The region, nicknamed “Silicon Saxony” to highlight its similarities to the Silicon Valley, is one of Germany’s most industrialized and home to multiple universities and over 50 R&D institutions. As a result, more and more global players and many small and medium-sized enterprises have chosen to establish a location in the area. “The future is in Saxony. We offer excellent academic and economic perspectives, especially for young and creative minds,” Lt. Governor Morlok told scientists, students, and guests at a reception hosted by Stanford University, inviting them to visit the State of Saxony. The following evening Lt. Governor Morlok welcomed more than 180 guests, including SEMICON West/Intersolar attendees as well as local business contacts, at the Saxony Evening Reception in Downtown San Francisco. In addition to further promoting the business location Saxony, the evening provided a great opportunity for the companies exhibiting at the “Saxony-live” pavilion at SEMICON West to expand their network.

The delegation was hosted and organized by the GACC California Branch, in cooperation with the German Consulate General. After four successful days in the Bay Area, Lt. Governor Morlok is visiting Boston to attend further meetings before returning to Saxony this weekend.
