Midway Chevrolet Donates $5,000 to Local Arizona Family for Handicapped Van

July 21, 2010 - PRLog -- In June of ’07, West Valley parents Christy and Frank Schreiber gave birth to a healthy baby girl named Kierra. The first six months of her life were very normal, but into her seventh month, she became inexplicably ill and was rushed to the hospital. Soon thereafter she was diagnosed with a serious metabolic disorder, which meant that she was unable to break down fats. This changed the family’s whole life and meant that Kierra would no longer continue to develop like a normal child. Although her development is delayed, she continues to grow and is now weighing close to forty pounds. It has become increasingly difficult for her mom to lift her in and out of the family vehicle and is trying to raise money for a van that will accommodate her special needs. Kierra is now three years old and attends physical therapy weekly.  Although she has shown signs of improvement, her current state can be compared to that of a two-month-old infant. She is still unable hold her head up and is also legally blind as a result of the disorder. Nonetheless, her family remains positive and is doing whatever it takes to raise money for their new van. They recently hosted a Spaghetti Dinner and Silent auction at the Community Church of Buckeye.

In addition to Midway Chevrolet’s generous gift, Christy has been able to raise supplemental funds by hosting bake sales, collecting cans, and selling homemade bracelets and bows. Although the Schreiber’s have been able to raise a great deal of money, they are still in need of funds for the handicap-equipped van come to fruition.
