July 20, 2010 - PRLog -- A new course from the National Flood School explores the transformational effect drying with heat can achieve in the restoration of a flood damaged building.

The one day course ‘Drying With Heat’ has been designed to provide an introduction to the basics of heat drying.

The subject is explored through a combination of technical instruction – and unique hands-on experience – achieved by delegates seeing the equipment in action at the National Flood School’s purpose-built Flood House.
Believed to be the only purpose-built floodable house in Europe, the Flood House comprises of eight rooms and 60 common household materials – providing a comprehensive test-bed for training and development.
National Flood School technicians will flood the building with water to produce a realistic environment for demonstrations of heat drying systems.
Delegates will also practice how to set-up heat drying systems on site and learn more about monitoring the drying process.
Chris Netherton, MD of The National Flood School, based in Farnham, Surrey, said: “This is a new course for 2010. The use of our unique Flood House will allow people to witness the aftermath of flooding and see how the heat drying process works.
“The aim of the course is to give people the experience to fully understand and use heat drying techniques to conduct flood restoration safely – and to a high standard.
“The drying out process is a critical stage of building restoration following a flood.

“Students will be able to see how a building reacts to heat drying processes and consider issues such as whether to strip out the building thoroughly – and the effect heat has on micro-organisms and on building materials.”
