By: Laura Dobbins A gala will take place this Friday at the Roosevelt Hotel in downtown Los Anglese where winners will be recognized. Francesca of Lost Nation won an Honorable Mention in the fiction category. This is the author's first novel. Francesca of Lost Nation is a fun read about a feisty grandmother, Francesca and her doting 10-year-old granddaughter Sarah. The two team for an adventurous summer in 1947 on an Apple Farm in Lost Nation Iowa. The story is filled with adventure: Grandma wins a county car race, learns to pilot an airplane with flyboys and chases a wanted felon. Crosby wrote the story to showcase her own grandmother, on whom Francesca is loosely based. "I want people to see that women are relavent even after 40. My grandmother was a woman ahead of her time: She went to college, raced cars and played poker," Crosby said. The author has lived much like her grandmother taught her: Grandiose and Spirited. Crosby has been a professional athlete, Hollywood actress - she had roles in such blockbusters like Pretty Woman and Beaches - she's a Nashville recorded and published songwriter and an award-winning journalist. "I've reinvented myself several times," Crosby said. "I think Francesca would be proud." The book was released in April by LuckyCinda and is available at Amazon.
