July 19, 2010 - PRLog -- In light of the recent decision by the Co-Operative to trial contactless payment technology on payments under £15; the UK’s leading discount code website, www.MyVoucherCodes.co.uk, has conducted a flash poll to gage public reaction. The research found that 72% want to see the technology used in all supermarket stores, the overriding reason for the majority being that they believe it will make the shopping experience ‘easier.’

http://www.MyVoucherCodes.co.uk decided to commission the flash poll following the announcement due to its online affiliation with several of the UK’s largest supermarket merchants. 1,052 people were therefore polled, asked questions surrounding their opinions on the introduction of contactless payment technology.

88% of those polled claimed to think that contactless payment was ‘a good idea;’ whilst over a third, 37% of those polled thought the technology was ‘overdue.’ Just over three fifths, 61% of those who believed it to be a good idea, explained that they thought it would make their shopping experience ‘easier.’

When asked the question, “Would you like to see the technology in all supermarket stores?” 72% of the respondents to the study answered “yes.” In addition, a quarter, 25% of these further claimed that they would like to see the payment method introduced in clothing stores.

23% of respondents claimed that they would only like to see the technology extended if strict security protection measures were ensured; whilst just under half, 44% admitted that they would like to be able to use the technology on purchases over £15.

Mark Pearson, Managing Director of http://www.MyVoucherCodes.co.uk, commented on the results:

“I believe that contactless payment technology is set to make huge waves in the high street of the future; making the Co-Operative’s decision to trial the technology, in my eyes, extremely forward-thinking. Internet retailing has grown from strength to strength over recent years, proving extremely popular with customers seeking a simpler, and more convenient, way to shop. The fact that so many of the people polled thought that contactless payment was a good idea as it will make their shopping ‘easier,’ proves that convenience is paramount for shoppers UK- wide.

“I welcome the decision by the Co-Operative to trial the technology. It will probably be only a matter of time before its competitors follow-suit.”
