NuU Medspa: The SmartLipo Procedure as Told by NuU Medspa
Smart Lipo, which NuU Medspa explains is also known as laser-liposuction, laser lipo and lunchtime lipo, is the latest fat removal treatment around. NuU Medspa has learned that the technique was first discovered in Europe and has recently become FDA approved for use in the USA. For the past 10 years, the technique has been used in South America, Europe and Asia. The procedure involves the use of a laser that dissolves the fat and tightens the surrounding skin. According to NuU Medspa, the procedure is done in an office and generally does not require the use of a general anesthetic.
The SmartLipo Procedure
NuU Medspa goes on to explain that SmartLipo is usually done in a doctor's office or a general clinic. Prior to the procedure, the doctor will mark the targeted areas and a local anesthetic is used to numb the area. A very small cannula, or tube, approximately 1.0 mm to 2.0 mm in diameter containing a laser fiber is inserted into the skin. NuU Medspa explains that the cannula is moved back and forth delivering the laser's energy to the fat cells, causing them to rupture and easily drain away. The body’s natural waste system removes the fluid released from the fat cells. The laser also causes small blood vessels to coagulate (gel) immediately on contact, NuU Medspa notes, thus resulting in less bleeding and swelling. The laser also affects the collagen in the skin which later causes the skin to tighten and shrink gradually over the next 6-8 weeks. Each session usually takes about 30-45 minutes.
SmartLipo vs Traditional Liposuction
Often, traditional liposuction is done under general anesthesia. Where fat is sucked out, there is loose skin left behind. NuU Medspa informs that with liposuction a 4-to 6-mm tube sucks out solid fat which inevitably causes tissue trauma. Traditional liposuction uses a vacuum with a metal tube attached, which the doctor moves back and forth manually. Typically because the human hand cannot be very precise, there is bleeding, swelling and destruction of tissue. This causes pain and bruising resulting in downtime from work typically up to a week.
SmartLipo is done with local anesthesia. A 1-mm tube fitted with laser melts fat with very little trauma. Smartlipo™ is a minimally invasive procedure, due to the cannula's small size. The laser causes small blood vessels to coagulate immediately on contact, resulting in less bleeding, swelling and bruising, - and a quicker recovery time than conventional liposuction. NuU Medspa recalls that because general anesthesia is unnecessary, the procedure is very safe with only minimal side effects. Within the next 6-8 weeks, the skin and surrounding area will remodel and adjust to the body contour. This is a gradual process and the best results are seen after 2 months. The downtime is minimal and the patient can usually return to work within 24 hours.
