It’s hard to believe eight year old Aleksander, from Dandenong North, was facing the fight of his life just a few months ago. It’s hard to smile when you’re being treated for cancer.
However on Saturday July 17th at the MCG, Aleksander gets to fulfill a dream of running through the banner with his hero’s as the Collingwood mascot courtesy of Challenge- supporting kids with cancer. Magpie Heath Shaw took time out this week from training for their important round 16 game to offer some tips on running out in front of a capacity MCG crowd.
The Collingwood v St Kilda match kicks off The Biggest Aussie Pie Night raising funds throughout August for Challenge helping to support kids like Aleksander and their families. Proud sponsors Four N' Twenty will be donating $1 for every pie sold at the match so get along to the "G" and indulge in a great Aussie past time - football and meat pies!
Now in its 27th year, Challenge strives to improve the day to day lives of these families and provide them with experiences, skills and self-confidence to embrace life and move forward on their journey.
“Challenge is calling on all schools, pubs, clubs, businesses, families and friends to hold a pie night in August. It’s a perfect opportunity for mates to get together, eat pies and raise money for Challenge- supporting kids with cancer,” says Challenge CEO David Rogers.
Anyone can hold a pie night, at anytime throughout August by simply registering at www.biggestaussiepienight.com or by calling 1800 828 855. You will receive a host kit with heaps of ideas and everything you need to host your own Biggest Aussie Pie Night.
