Dr. Nona Djavid, founder of the Wellness Choice Center is among a handful of chiropractic physicians in Southern California certified in the Webster’s Technique - a chiropractic analysis and adjustment designed to help breech babies turn to the correct position before birth. Last week, Dr. Djavid’s knowledge and certification in this procedure came in handy, possibly saving the life of an expecting mother.
Late last month, Cindy a 32-year old pregnant woman from Orange County, called the Wellness Choice Center and complained that her baby was in the breech position, and she feared that another C-section would be life-threatening, given her birthing history. “Three years ago, a C-section almost proved to be fatal” said Cindy “I had uncontrollable internal bleeding and bouts with a stubborn infection for days after the birth.”
Cindy, like so many other pregnant women who are told by their OBGYN that they will need a C-section, did not know that there are alternative methods of promoting natural birth and possibly eliminating C-section and the risks associated with it. “After what I went through, I asked around and was told that some chiropractors perform the Webster Technique which could help me with my breech baby."
Dr. Djavid talked to Cindy and gave her hope that a C-section may not be her only option. “I could sense the fear and urgency in Cindy’s tone and gave her the encouraging news that I may be able to help.” said Dr. Djavid, lead chiropractic physician at Wellness Choice Center in Newport Beach.
“The Webster Technique is designed to reduce tension and structural strains in the pelvis - and in a case of a breech baby it provides support for the correct positioning of the baby, promoting it to turn.” said Dr. Djavid.
After three sessions with Dr. Djavid, Cindy was amazed by the results. “After my appointment that day, I was getting ready to step into the shower when I literally felt my baby turning… it was the most amazing and emotional experience an expecting mother of a breech baby could have!” said Cindy. Subsequent visits to Dr. Djavid and an ultrasound a day later proved that was the case.
Cindy went into contractions a week later and gave natural birth to her 2nd son. “I am so thrilled to have met Dr. Djavid, and I can honestly say that I owe my life to her persistence and knowledge - and of course her knowledge of the Webster Technique" said Cindy.
Cindy brought her son in for his first adjustment a week after he was born, then signed up for corrective chiropractic rehabilitation program to improve her spine / overall health.
