The essence of the book is this: a resourceful, entrepreneurial, independent musician--even in this internet-age, and because of it--can start to have success on a small level that will build toward successes on a larger level. By starting one's indie music career locally it can allow for some immediate successes that become steps toward regional and even national successes. Venturella says, "Start locally, and then take over the world."
The Local Music Journey was written and compiled independently by Venturella. He conducted several personal interviews and many more were captured with the help of social media. "This is really the first book that I'm aware of that covers the business of independent music on a local level here in Wisconsin. It's also the first book of its kind to tout new media tools used to capture the majority of the book's interviews,"
